Sustainable Approach

The foundation of Hygge Supply kit homes rests on sustainability. Each model integrates those principles of design and development which incorporate environmentally viable methods and materials. Here are a few ways we are working toward keeping our kit homes environmentally and resourcefully viable:

Thermory

Thermory wood floors and exterior cladding are made from responsibly sourced wood which is treated without the use of chemicals. The wood is enhanced using cutting edge heat and steam technology.

Powder Coating

Powder coatings are made without solvents, therefore emitting zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when applied to our cabinet fronts and frames. The coatings are also extremely durable and resistant to chips and scratches.

Durat & Richlite Countertops

We offer both Durat solid surface countertops or Richlite resin-infused paper countertops.  Durat is a unique ecological solid surface material which contains recycled pre-consumer plastics and is 100% recyclable. Richlite is an incredibly durable, versatile, and highly sustainable material composed of approximately 65% FSC-certified or recycled paper content and 35% phenolic resin.  All countertops are cut-to-spec at the factory and shipped to the job site resulting in zero waste on-site.

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)

The SIPs panels used in the system are cut to length at the factory, leaving little waste on the job site. The design of the panels allow for rapid construction time due to “tongue and groove” with a spline design, and are secured and sealed, which reduces thermal bridging (heat loss). The SIPs are recyclable and made from recycled materials, and the foam cores provide the high R values and won’t deteriorate over time.

Steel Framing

Steel framing is pre-assembled and pre-cut to length at the factory, leaving zero waste on the job-site. Unlike traditional wood framing which is susceptible to termites, rot, and mold, steel framing is durable and will not warp, split, or creep. Additionally, steel frames are recyclable, and all steel frames contain recycled material.

Pella Reserve Doors & Lifestyle Windows

Pella takes a comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship, committing itself to responsible forest management, reduced energy consumption, and maximized recycling opportunities. Additionally, they are committed to providing a product made to last. Pella Reserved Doors and Lifestyle Windows are backed by some of the strongest warranties in the business, and provide exceptional energy efficiency.

Radiant Floor Heating

Radiant floor heating or hydronic floor heating is an extremely efficient, cost-effective source of heating. Radiant systems supply heat via water-filled tubes directly to the floors and radiate heat through the flooring. More efficient than baseboard or forced air heating, radiant floor heating also uses very little electricity, relying almost entirely on the compact, economical boiler to power the system. Radiant systems are also preferred by those affected by allergies since they do not distribute allergens like many forced air systems.

Fisher & Paykel

Fisher & Paykel appliances are sustainably manufactured, and the water use of the dish drawers themselves have been reduced by 55%. Fisher & Paykel products have achieved top ranking results with Energy Star and WELs water ratings. They also have an appliance recycling program which saves about 25,000 appliances per year from landfills and enable the re-use of bulk materials.

Pier Foundations

Pier foundations overall have minimal impact on the land requiring less excavation. Piers paired with our steel framed flooring also prevents foundations from sinking and settling over time, especially in areas with unstable soils or high yearly rainfall.
